Dealing with the Media in a Crisis with Nick Pisani and Ruth Settle

About the talk…

As the coronavirus pandemic has unfolded, the ability to get your message “Out there” has been tested as never before. Governments, Corporations and individuals compete for space in all forms of media - and when they get it wrong, the costs can be disastrous - fatal even as both Boris Johnson and President Tump have discovered in different ways. Today we will look at how to handle the media generally, and especially when and unexpected crisis crisis erupts.

This session will be split into two parts, with the first an overview of Media and Presentation skills, with a focus on Crisis Communications by Nick Pisani. The second will be a Q&A session with Nick and his guest. In the UK that will be Ruth Settle, and in Australia it will be Dr Simon Longstaff, both of whom have extensive knowledge & experience in handling crises.

About Nick Pisani...

Nick spent 7 years as Editor of BBC1’s flagship debate programme “Question Time” and ten years as Executive Producer of The BBC World News Intelligence Squared debates - recorded all over the world, and seen by approx 80 million viewers. He was also Head of Presentation and Events for David Cameron, Former British Prime Minister, and for the last seven years, Snr Consultant for freuds Communications - one of the UK’s leading PR agencies.

About Ruth Settle…

Ruth has over 20 years’ experience in corporate, brand and personal reputation management with specialisms in the media sector and issues and crisis management. She has a strong track record as a senior advisor on corporate reputation for some of the world’s best-known media and entertainment brands including ITV plc (where she was Group Communications Director), Amazon, Netflix, Condé Nast, NBC Universal, Warner Bros. and Live Nation.

After working in-house for the BBC, ITV and Celador Productions (creators of global hit Who Wants to Be a Millionaire), Ruth spent 8 years as a partner at Freuds, the UK’s largest independent communications agency, before setting up her own consultancy in 2019.
